Brian joined the Genesis Recovery team in 2019. Brian studied psychology in a biblical context at Biola University. He went on to study counseling psychology at Argosy University. He then began his clinical work as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) trainee at Alvarado Parkway Institute (API). Brian completed his practicum for graduate school at API where he served a diverse population of people seeking relief from a wide range of mental illness. Brian worked as an MFT Associate under the supervision of a doctoral staff where he served people suffering from mood and personality disorders. His work included a large population of retired NFL players suffering from mood disorders related to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and working alongside the clinical staff at the Amen clinic.
During his time in clinical practice, Brian has developed a practical way of serving the clients he works with by building a rapport with them based on his care and compassion for their needs. Building an authentic connection with the clients he serves enables Brian to impart truth founded on evidence-based clinical practices. Brian has been able to combine his clinical training with his own struggles and successes in recovery. It was at Genesis Recovery that Brian humbled himself by setting aside his clinical background and failed attempts to maintain sobriety and built a new biblical foundation for permanent recovery. He came to discover how his faith in Jesus Christ is enhanced when combined with a 12-Step program. Today Brian applies God’s word, the wisdom he learned in clinical practice, the 12-Steps and the importance of being a part of the recovery community in San Diego.
